ABOUT

WHO WE ARE

We don't consider ourselves a traditional "script development company."

The Writer's Refuge is a Chicago based story incubator that believes there is a better way to bring scripts to market.

We believe in a process that nurtures the writer as well as those participants involved in the development process.

And since we are not a production company or a theatre company, there are no strict deadlines.

This is why we say that The Writer's Refuge is a place where creativity finds sanctuary.

The work is done when the work is done.

Brian A. Hill

Founder

founder

Over a career spanning more than thirty years, Brian Hill has worked as an actor and producer in Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Chicago.

In 2001 Brian founded Visions & Voices Theatre Co. where in its three year history, produced six shows; 4 of which were Jeff Recommended by the Joseph Jefferson Awards Committee with two of the shows receiving awards for Best New Work.

Brian spent ten years as a CSA casting associate in Los Angeles, CA where he worked on such TV shows as Pretty Little Liars, 12 Monkeys, The Purge and a bunch of TV pilots that never saw the light of day.

In 2019, Brian started The Actor’s Refuge as a response to what he had been hearing from actors, as well as to what he was seeing on a daily basis in auditions.

The Actor’s Refuge was created to help start a dialogue about the state of acting and of actor training in this country, as well as to help the actor connect to the joyful act of pretend.

A Chicago launch is anticipated in 2025 to work in conjunction with The Writer's Refuge.
